Nikon S, coupled rangefinder camera, photo 1385 viewsNikon S, coupled rangefinder camera s/n 6107760, with Interchangeable f 1.4 / 5cm Nikkor lens, s/n 333783. This camera was manufactured by Nippon Kogaku (Nikon) in approximately Oct.-Nov. of 1952 (midway into the production run). Film format size was retained at 24mm x 34mm, and would remain that size until the Nikon S-2 Model was introduced in mid-1953, and increased to the standard size of 24mm x 36mm. The Nikon S retained the round advance knob (as in the earlier Nikon 1, M and MS models). The Nikon S, body style was copied from the Zeiss Ikon “Contax Cameraâ€, This model Nikon was the camera that put “Nikon†on the world map!â€
